This blanket is called “Variations on a Theme” because as I worked on stitch swatches, I found myself wanting to create many variations of one basic stitch pattern just to see how far it could go. It’s a stitch sampler blanket using many of these patterns.

Row 1: Ch 32, sc in second ch from hook, skip next 2 ch, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next ch–shell made, skip next 2 ch, sc in next ch, * skip next 2 ch, shell in ch-1 sp of next shell, skip next 2 ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), * shell in ch-1 sp of next shell, dc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), * shell in ch-1 sp of next shell, dc in single dc between shells; repeat from * across ending with dc in last dc, turn.
Rows 4-12 or until piece is square, or almost square: Repeat row 3.
At end of last row, fasten off.
To make this stitch pattern any size, begin with ch multiple of 6 plus 2.

Boo boos in the instructions here. Round one says to put a shell in a shell but you haven't made them yet?
