This blanket is called “Variations on a Theme” because as I worked on stitch swatches, I found myself wanting to create many variations of one basic stitch pattern just to see how far it could go. It’s a stitch sampler blanket using many of these patterns.

At end of last row, fasten off.
To make this stitch pattern any size, begin with ch multiple of 6 plus 2.

Fun day to start this as it's really cold!

Okay, forgive me, but I am clueless as to rows 6-16…do I continue from row 1 and on? Kelly

That's a lovely first square. I've finished it up in about an hour.
Yes you do repeat rows 2 to 5 till you make a square shape. I've just counted my finished rows and they come to 16 in total. I finished on row 4. Hope this helps. 😀

Thanks! Cant wait to get started.

Thank you. I must have missed that last little bit which is not surprising as I am getting ready to go back to school tomorrow and my thinking is a little wonky and mopey. ~Kelly

hey i'm newer to the pattern reading thing can anyone tell me what This stitch pattern is a multiple of 6 plus 2. means?
hgainsford says
If you should want to make a larger piece of work, your beginning chain would need to be a multiple of 6 plus 2. Say you want 10 shell repeats, you would begin with 10 x 6 = 60 + 2 = 62 ch. This pattern would work up well as a baby blankie if you increased the shell repeats.

I'm slow this week! Count me in though I'll probably sit down Saturday (before then if we get the expected snow and ice here in "sunny" central Alabama!) and whip up a bunch at once! I recently made up my own simple cap, scarf, and mitts – pattern I've never seen. LOL! I've linked you to my blog, too! From Netagene, the high partial legal blindie!

I loved this square and made another one out of cotton as a baby washcloth! I think I am going to make several of the squares from this afghan into washcloths for babies or the kitchen in addition to the ones I'm making for the afghan.
