Here’s a lovely 12″ square pattern for all your crochet-alongs! It can also be made smaller if you fancy a 6″, 8″ or 10″ square. This square is made with 3-double crochet shells that form a sort of diamond pattern, hence the name.

if I wanted to do this in one colour would I still need to break the yarn and attach as says in each round.?

When I make my square it is pulling in the middle on each side. So I’m not getting four straight lines. They dip in in the middle of each side. Like a four pointed star. Any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong here? Thanks.

Hi, LaTonia, thanks for your comment. I don’t think you are doing anything wrong. I have had a few people comment with this same issue and all I can figure out is it’s a stitch height/gauge issue. Dedri addresses the ripples and ruffles a bit in her step-by-step instructions for the block at http://www.lookatwhatimade.net/crafts/yarn/crochet/block-a-week-cal-2014/bonus-block-1-harlequin-shells/. In every case that I’ve been told about, the block straightens right up when sewn or crocheted into a blanket with other squares.
