Cheerful Child is a baby blanket CAL here on pinkmambo.com that appears every Monday and Thursday January 7-February 18, 2016. It features granny-style blocks in a variety of designs, all on the easy side.
Every other block is a different granny square design–there are 12 of those–and alternating blocks are solid granny squares in the five colors, all made the same–and there are 13 of those (Hadley Square #4). So 25 blocks in all plus a border. My blanket turned out to be 34 1/2″ square made with a size I hook.
Cheerful Child’s skill level is adventurous beginner, which means you have knowledge of the basic stitches and are ready to take on a larger, more involved project with a little more texture and combinations of stitches. Experienced crocheters will enjoy the fun of making these fresh and pretty blocks as well.
Each square features round by round photos and written instructions. I hope you will join in the fun of making this cheery, pretty blanket!

Hi, Carolyn.
Thank you for a very enjoyable CAL! I’ve had fun making the squares I’ve had time to do so far, and i’m looking forward to finishing the blanket. I’ve loved the colors you used, and because I had most of those colors on hand, I used them, substituting a yellow for the desert glaze. I’m thinking that a couple shades of purple and a brighter green would make a fun lap blanket for someone. This has been a joy.

Thank you so so much for your kind comments! I agree, this would make a nice lap blanket. It’s cheerful and not babyish really at all with the color choices. So glad you have enjoyed it and I hope you will join in the next CAL. Im not sure of the date yet but I will be announcing that pretty soon. It’s a big project being translated into lots of languages so I’m very excited about it! <3

Hi Carolyn,
Thank you ever so much for the patterns for the Cheerful Child blanket.
I loved making it especially as the patterns were not difficult. (Although I am 65 years old I only learned to crochet 5 years ago and I have the “dis advantage ” of English not being my first language)
Hope to “see you ” soon for the next project.

Thank you so much for your kind comments! You will be very happy to know that my next CAL is being translated into a number of languages. Is Dutch your main language? Dutch is included, as well as Swedish, Finnish and Danish and many others. Looking forward to the adventure! <3

Dear Carolyn, I am so happy to have found your blog. I enjoyed the Cheerful Child Blanket every Square! It felt so good that I could follow each pattern. And this morning I finished the border. I have one remark in round 4: instead of SC I did DC (think it was a typo). So .. now I am looking forward to your next project and hope to joint too. Warm regards from the Netherlands. Mireille

Thank you so much! This is the first blanket I have ever made and the largest project I’ve ever tried. I was hoping for a fairly simple border that was still pretty and this is perfect. Still putting the squares together as I made mine larger and just finished them all a couple of days ago.

~ Thank you so very much for giving us this beautiful blanket pattern and guiding us through the making of it all along the way. Such a joy to make and look at!

The Felicity square was your first design I chose to make, next the Dream Circle Mandala; lastly the Cheerful Child (round D of the border) using colors of turquoise, yellow, lime, pink ombre and persimmon as I wanted colors different but similar to your color choices. I’ve enjoyed making all your designs, and everybody has admired my work. Thank you for sharing your designs.
