Materials
390 yds./357m fingering weight yarn (shawl shown used 1 ball KnitPicks Chroma Fingering, color #25853 Impressionist)
H (5.00mm) hook
Gauge
Gauge is not critical. Use hook size needed to achieve a nice drape.
Instructions
Row 1: Ch 5, join with sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, (sc, ch 5, sc, ch 3, sc, ch 5, sc, ch 3, sc, ch 5, sc) in ring, turn. (3 ch-5 sps and 2 ch-3 sps)
Row 2: Ch 3, (sc, ch 5, sc, ch 3, sc) in first ch-5 sp, ch 5, (sc, ch 3, sc, ch 5, sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-5 sp for center point, ch 5, (sc, ch 3, sc, ch 5, sc) in last ch-5 sp, turn.

I was so glad to get your email and blog. I love your patterns, and have made many over the years. I’ve been playing around with my hooks and some yarn for a few days now, searching for inspiration for a new shawl pattern. Gotta tell ya– I’ve started and ripped apart at least half a dozen!
But a few minutes ago, here came your Calypso shawlette, and it is simple, but elegant as well.
I am using Brown Sheep Nature Spun sport, in their Wood Moss color, and a size 3.5 mm (E) Hook. At present the fabric is the size of my palm and has a nice drape. I will make it to a full-shawl size, probably 70″ point to point, only because I stay cold from my unwanted suitor –Arth-R-Itis and his gang of hangers-on.

an update. My dance partner –Arth-r-itis was slowing my crochet down with the smaller hook, sooooo, I combined the Wood Moss with sport weight Brown Sheep Naturespun Grecian Olive (adds a pretty hint of orange), and upped my hook to 5.0, an H.
I’ve done sbout 20 rows, then 4 rows of double strand sport weight Brown Sheep Naturespun Plumberry.I’m back on the greens for another 2 rows. Then I believe Latte or maybe even Cream for a couple rows. Then start the greens for 20 again and see where it takes me.
I wanted to add some colors to the greens, but didn’t want them to “pop”. I also wanted to use some of my stash on hand.
And more yarn play. . . The fabrick looks best keeping the colors to two, the greens and the Plumberry, sooooo
now I’m playing with the depth of the Plumberry stripes.
it is so very much fun to play with yarn and patterns and to share the thoughts with someone whose work I admire so very, very much!

I’m currently about 200+ yards into my shawl. It’s beautiful! I have a very nice cotton & using a 6 hook. It’s beautiful! I can’t wait to finish it & block it. The color is fallish with tans, brown & some flecks of other colors. The minute I saw this pattern, I knew I had to make it! Unbelievably, I didn’t have anything in my stash —— so we know what that means!

I’m very new to crochet but have made a few things. Love this pattern. The only thing I’m confused about is after I do the instructions in ( ) and instructions say to “in first ch-5 sp, ” do I do the ” ” in the first ch 5 in the ( ) I just finished working, and “in next ch-5 sp for center point” in second ch sp”? I guess I’m confusing myself as to which ch-5 sp I work in each time. I know this is important so pattern will come out right. I love your Pink Mambo web site.
